Home Keeping Hearts

I love this picture Mother gave me years and years ago.
 It is calming to look at it.
Print by W.L. Taylor. 1903.

"Stay, stay at home, my heart, and rest;
Home-keeping hearts are happiest,
For those that wander they know not
where are full of trouble and fall of care;
To stay at home is best."
Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

 I have heard money was often found between the layers of old pictures.
I hope every one's week is going well.
 I am enjoying the cooler weather, and God is painting the mountain's once more.
All is well.

What a lovely treasure, Marcie! I'd never heard that money was sometimes stashed in old pictures. Very interesting! I love your description of fall - "God painting the mountains". How very beautiful and true!!!! Hugs, Terri xoxoxo

Hi Marcie,
I think that print is beautiful. I often think I would have fit rather well in that era. I love being home. It has been pretty much all I have ever known. I have worked a couple of times to pay for some medical expenses after Landon was born, but keeping a home is very fulfilling. I have always loved that Longfellow verse too.
It is always such a pleasure to come by here and visit. Now I am off to take the backs off all the pictures in the house!hehe
hugs

very comforting picture Dear Marcie...it kinda reminds me of a time when we lost power and the kids were little...we played games by candle light and told stories and cooked on our earth stove ...fireplace insert...cna't remember what they were called...anyhow, this is a beautiful post sweetie!

Those were simpler times weren't they. I could be quite content in that setting. Did you really find that money? It looks different from any dollar I have ever seen. What is the story behind it?

Marcie, I love that verse too and I totally believe it. Home Sweet Home!

Marcie, this is such a sweet picture. I'm lucky to have some old pictures from my Grandparent's old house. They offer that sweet serene type of setting too. Reminds me to slow down and get cozy.
Happy Fall to you and yours,
Sherry

Hi Marcie,
Such a beautiful print, and even more special because it was given to you by your mother. I was so happy to see your poem by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. He is one of my favorite poets, and it is not often that I see his written words online. When I was in High School, I chose his poem "The Tide Rises, The Tide Falls" to recite in front of my English class as part of an assignment. I even chose music to play in the background, which was the theme music to the movie "Jaws." Thanks for bringing back those memories to me. Have a wonderful weekend.

I couldn't agree more with Mr.Longfellow! (Such a fairy name!)

There's a big trend to be thought of as a wandering gypsy and as someone who's done enough of that, I can say being home IS best.

Good morning sweet Marcie! Love the old picture! I have one hanging that is of two little girls out of the bath sitting by the fire - perhaps a print of the same artist.
Hope your day is fun with sister and your visit home to your Mother to celebrate her 80th birthday is a lovely journey - be safe! Love you - Joan

The picture is quite lovely and I agree with Longfellow..."home-keeping hearts are happiest". I'm blessed to be a home maker and help meet.
Like Joan, I have a print of the two children, after bathing, warming themselves by the fire. Just lovely!
